At Ray O. Cook, we know that buying
a new Comfort System is not a common purchase. Most
homeowners will purchase less than two Comfort Systems
in their entire life. To help with this process, we
have included some beneficial facts every homeowner
should know. We invite you to use these facts to help
choose a new Comfort System that will best meet your
needs and budget.
Installation
Facts:
According to the California Energy Commission, over
half of new installations they tested in California
were not the efficiency rating the contractor or manufacture
of the equipment promised after installation!
Correct System Size:
According to the California Energy Commission almost
half of all new systems are oversized causing short
cycling, premature system failure, lost utility savings
and excessive noise during operation.
Ray O Cook Fact:
All Ray O. Cook estimators are certified with the
National Comfort Institute (see NCI link below) in
Heating and Air Conditioning Sizing. The correct system
size will be determined BEFORE any new system recommendations
are made.
Existing Duct Work:
Sadly, most heating and air conditioning contractors
“sell the box”. They will remove the old
“box” and connect the new “box”
to your existing duct work that can be either sized
incorrectly, leaking air or both. All efficiency ratings
of new heating and air conditioning systems are based
on laboratory testing procedures without duct work!
How well your new system performs, (regardless of brand
name or rated efficiency level) is directly related
to how well your duct work is designed and performs.
Ray O Cook Fact:
All Ray O. Cook estimators are certified with the
National Comfort Institute (see NCI link below) in
Air Balance and Duct Design. Your estimator will test
and measure the performance of your current duct system
BEFORE making any new Comfort System recommendations.
This is the only proven way to ensure the new Comfort
System you purchase operates at it’s peak rated
efficiency, PROVIDING YOU WITH BOTH ENERGY SAVINGS
AND COMFORT.
Installation
Practices: New Comfort Systems arrive at the home
in a box. How well they are installed in the home will
make or break the net worth of your overall purchase.
Keep in mind that an improper installation can reduce
or even eliminate any value in the investment you have
made towards quality and efficiency.
Building Permit: All
heating and cooling installations require a building
permit. Building codes are provided as a “minimum”
requirement for a contractor to follow. The quality
of a new installation performed without a build permit
would fall BELOW “minimum” standards.
Ray O Cook Fact: Ray O. Cook includes
a Building Permit with every installation performed,
GUARANTEED IN WRITING
Refrigerant Charging (Amount
of Freon): The California Energy Commission
finds that most new A/C systems are not charged correctly.
Improper refrigerant amounts in new systems has been
found to lower over efficiency up to 50%!
Ray O Cook Fact: Ray O. Cook will
electronically adjust final refrigerant charge to
manufacture specifications ensuring your new Comfort
System is running at Peak Performance!
New Equipment Facts: Once it is determined that
the duct system will perform correctly and the correct
installation will be performed, then and only then is
it time to look at available new Comfort System options.
